Donations box at the Stirling Smith

The Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum receives core funding from Stirling Council but looks for public support to fund a range of activities.  We are dedicated to providing the best possible service to all of our visitors, and have never charged an admission fee in order to ensure that the Smith's galleries are accessible to all.

Because we are a Registered Scottish Charity (no. SCO16162), we rely upon donations to allow us to carry out our work.  Just some of the things that donations have allowed us to make possible are:

Any contribution to the Stirling Smith is greatly valued, and is essential to aiding our commitment to providing a high-quality visitor experience to everyone.  Your donations ensure the long-term future of the art gallery and museum, to ensure that our collections are available to view by generations to come.

If you would like to make a donation, we would be very grateful if you could send it - either by cheque, postal order or International Money Order (made payable to The Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum), to the following address:

Additionally, if you are resident in the United Kingdom, are a taxpayer, and would like to make a donation of more than £5, you are also eligible to make a Gift Aid declaration.  This means that whatever amount you choose to donate, we can reclaim tax from the government on the value of your donation at no extra cost to yourself whatsoever.  If you would like to make a Gift Aid declaration with your donation, please download a copy of the Stirling Smith Gift Aid form which you can find here.  Simply print the form, which is in Adobe PDF format, fill in your details, and send it to the above address with your donation.

Leave a Legacy for your Local Gallery

135 years ago, the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum came into being through the bequest of artist Thomas Stuart Smith (1814-1869). In the years since, the Stirling Smith has benefited financially from legacies left by local people, as well as having its collections enriched through bequests of paintings and artefacts. Recent bequests of significance have included the William Harvey Trust (£71,570, 2006), Christian B. Sample’s legacy (£5000, 2007) and the art collection of Janet Terris Burnett (2008).

Friends of the Smith Linda Cummings and Frances Chatfield working with Stirling solicitors, have now produced a leaflet to remind people how easy it can be to remember your local gallery in your Will. The images featured on the leaflet are of paintings and objects bequeathed to the Stirling Smith over the last hundred years. These include paintings by artists who lived locally (W. York Macgregor lived in Bridge of Allan), exhibited locally (Margaret Cook) or painted local subjects (John Duncan’s Bannockburn painting). The objects range from the Stirling Star of Snowdon Purity Brooch to Japanese netsuke.

The design work on the leaflet was contributed by graphic designer Michael Chatfield.

Commenting on the project, Colin O’Brien, Chairman of the Stirling Smith Trustees said:

“Museums and galleries are created and maintained by individuals and communities, donating and bequeathing paintings, objects and resources. The Stirling Smith has collections of both national and local importance, thanks to the generosity of past generations. This leaflet is designed to remind the present generation that they too can leave a lasting legacy by contributing to the Smith’s collections and development fund.”
