The Stirling Women's Oral History Archive
Now available for purchase on CD-ROM for £40.00 each (including postage)
This project was undertaken in 1987-1990 by historian
Jayne D. Stephenson (1963-1994). It has been described as a sophisticated,
wide-ranging and detailed resource for the historian, teacher and
researcher. The 80 Stirling women interviewed were born in the period 1894 -
1926.
Their witness extends to 868,040 words in 1559 pages of text and is covered
by a detailed index. The subjects tackled cover every aspect of the human
experience, with an emphasis on work. The women remain anonymous and are
categorised by year of birth and occupation.
In 2003-2007, an electronic version of the Archive was created, as heavy use
was threatening the fragile paper originals. This was undertaken by
volunteers at the University of Stirling and managed by the Friends of the
Smith. (ISBN 0-9546511-4-6.)
